QUICK INSTRUCTIONS

FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T READ INSTRUCTIONS  

INSTALLATION

1.    Mount the MPC-XG on the wall. (The X can be either a 6 or 8 depending on which model you have.)

2.    Attach the wires from the 24 VAC power supply to the input screw connector. (Polarity does not matter mater – although 1 terminal is a common to all devices.) 

3.    Attach the wires from each station valve to the appropriate 24 VAC station output screw connectors. (Polarity does not matter – although 1 terminal is a common to all devices.)

4.    Attach the wires from the Pump Start Relay to the 24 VAC output screw connector. (Polarity does not matter – although 1 terminal is a common to all devices.)

 

OPERATION

1.    Set the CLOCK (if necessary)

2.    Choose the PROGRAM (set program timing if necessary)

3.    Press START/STOP (to run program)  

EXAMPLE: (to set CLOCK)

Press CLOCK (display shows DOW-TIME- MONTH-DAY-YEAR)

Press UP/DOWN (to change blinking function)

Press SKIP (to move to next function DOW-TIME- MONTH-DAY-YEAR)

Press CLOCK (display shows stop mode - present time, date, program, station)

 

EXAMPLE: To choose a program

Press PROGRAM (display shows stop mode - present time, date, program, station) (program number changes)

 

EXAMPLE: To enable/disable watering for any day in the 14-day cycle and/or to change the start/stop times for each daily watering period of the selected program

Press DOW (display shows 14-day cycle Sunday to Saturday where * indicates today)

Press ON/OFF (to toggle blinking DOW between ‘Capital Letter = ON’ and ‘Lower Case Letter = OFF’)

Press SKIP (to move to next DOW)

Press WATER (display shows 3 sets of start and stop times)

Press UP/DOWN (to change blinking function)

Press SKIP (to move to next function START1-STOP1-START2-STOP2-START3-STOP3)

Press DIGIT (to move to next digit HOURS-MINUTES-SECONDS-AM/PM)

Press WATER (display shows stop mode - present time, date, program, station)

 

EXAMPLE: To change the duration time for each station and the delay time between cycles for the watering period of the selected program

Press DURATION (display shows the duration time for station1)

Press UP/DOWN (to change blinking function)

Press DIGIT (to move to next digit HOURS-MINUTES-SECONDS)

Press SKIP (to move to next station, the delay, and then back to the stop mode)

 

EXAMPLE: To begin running the selected program

Press RUN/STOP (display shows run mode - present time, date, program, station)

Press ON/OFF (to fake a START time if watering cycle is OFF or to fake a STOP time if watering cycle is ON) (blinking station number or delay indicates watering cycle is ON)

Press SKIP (to skip present station once if the watering cycle is ON)

 

EXAMPLE: To end running the selected program

Press RUN/STOP (display shows stop mode - present time, date, program, station)


EXPLANATION OF ELEMENTS

 What the various elements on the MPC-SXG do and how they are used?

24 VAC Input screw terminals 
Attach 24 VAC electricity from a power supply to these terminals. It does not matter which wire from the power supply is attached to which terminal.  One terminal is common with all outputs.

LCD
This displays useful information about the status of the MPC-XG and allows the user to easily view and check program settings.

24 VAC STATION Output screw terminals
Attach a wire from the valve to be controlled to these terminals. This is a 24 VAC output. It does not matter which wire going to the valve is attached to which terminal.  One terminal is common with the input and all outputs.

24 VAC PUMP START RELAY Output screw terminals
Attach a wire from the PUMP START RELAY to be controlled to these terminals. This is a 24 VAC output. It does not matter which wire going to the valve is attached to which terminal.  One terminal is common with the input and all outputs.

Program (Button)
Used to switch between user programs.

Water/DOW (Button)
Used to view/change the watering days and the start/stop watering cycle times

Clock (Button)
Used to view/change the present time and date.

Duration/Digit (Button)
Used to view/change the watering duration of each station and the delay between watering cycles during each watering period.  This button also selects digits.

Station/Skip (Button)
Used to view/change the duration of the station and the delay watering times.  This button also skips/selects functions.

Run/Stop (Button)
Used to run or stop the selected program.

Up (Button)
Used to increase a function or digit.

Down (Button)
Used to decrease a function or digit.

On/Off (Button)
Used to enable/disable watering days.  This button also fakes START or STOP times in RUN mode.


OPERATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS

What are the operational capabilities of the MPC-XG?

INPUT VOLTAGE
The MPC-XG operates on 24 VAC input voltage. Using any other voltage or DC electricity will damage the MPC-XG unit.

OUTPUT VOLTAGE
The MPC-XG will supply 24 VAC electricity. Any valves or relays attached to it must be capable of operating with that kind of electricity.

OUTPUT POWER
The MPC-XG can supply 25 VA of continuous power. Any device controlled by the MPC must use less than 25 VA of power. You can attach 2 different devices to the MPC-XG output terminal, but both devices must operate with 24 VAC and the total power required by two devices can not be more than 25 VA.

WATERING TIME
You should assure that none of the 3 START/STOP times overlap one another as this might cause the unit to react in an unpredictable manner. Unused times should be set to 00:00:00 to be disabled.

WATERING CYCLE TIME
If the WATERING TIME is less than the WATERING CYCLE TIME (total time of each station’s duration) then some stations may never get to turn ON.  The WATERING CYCLE continues until a STOP time is reached.

STATION DURATION TIME
Each station has it’s own duration time.  A watering cycle equals the total of each station’s duration plus the delay (no watering) duration.

DELAY DURATION TIME
Each watering cycle has a delay duration time.  This delay is the time all stations are OFF between the end of one watering cycle and the beginning of the next watering cycle.
